This customer service number was in a letter, on Capital One Letterhead, asking for a Photo ID so they can process my credit card application. The problem is that I never applied for this card. I believe, they are just trying to get my info for ID theft.

Cold called by number (2 guys with Indian accents) saying they were MC/Visa "card services" and could tell I was an on time payer on credit cards and they wanted to offer to cut my interest rate in half. Nothing I had to do just keep paying on time in the future. Said they knew this from my Experian CC report but then after allegedly having such credit report, wanted me to provide the credit card number with the highest balance (you should be able to see that if you have a credit report). Said I was not comfortable giving that information out on the phone and the guy I was talking to said "Why not?"--it was obviously a scam but that response sealed the deal.

My mother received a call from this number saying they were the fraud line trying to verify I had put an application in. They gave her a reference number and told her to give me their number to call back. I had definitely not put an application in so I called the actual capital one number and they told me I had not put in an application nor was there a reason someone should call me.

I didn't answer the first time, but they left a message indicating they were verifying a credit card application that I had indeed applied for, so I answered the next time they called. They already knew what specifically I had applied for, so it was in fact Capital One, and they needed to verify my ID card to continue with the application.

Received letter with this number to call back about recent credit application, long story short (and after I placed fraud alert of one year on my file with the three credit reporting agencies) THIS APPEARS TO BE A SCAM of multiple depths, various males in India and many phone numbers involved. Maybe their website or phone lines have been hijacked.

Turned out to really be Capital One. Stupidly called the # back and talked to someone about an application in my name. Was told it would be shut down and even told me how to put a freeze all 3 credit bureaus and file a FTC report, even supplied the numbers and web pages. Felt dumb that I didn't just call Capital One customer service so decided to do that next thinking I may have just got scammed. First person didn't know the #, which freaked me out, next was sent to Fraud Dept. who then sent me to the Applications Dept. While talking to Applications he asked me if I had already talked to someone today because it looked like the application was already marked as fraud. I told him yes and he actually repeated this number to me and told me it was Applications' direct line. Felt so much better. Definitely just suggest starting with the customer service # for Capital One even though this turned out well for me. Forgot to mention Capital One did do a credit check the day before I got a call for this, so someone was trying to open an account.

Someone using my credentials had applied for a credit card in my name. The Capital One person verified the application # that was asssigned when the application was received from the fraudster. The lady told me the application would be cancelled and that any credit score impact would be reversed in 60-90 days. I checked my Credit Score which showed a credit check on 9/6/22 by Capital One.

I was VERY SUSPICIOUS but it turned out to be legitimate. I called Capital One using a different known number and they transferred me to the Fraud Department and confirmed they had tried to contact me and that someone was trying to apply for a Capital One Quicksilver Card using my info. They recommended I call one of the credit reporting agencies and put an alert or freeze on my file -- free for one year.

It a Scam, then they will give you another number to call. to get more information out of you. they try to sound legit but gave them a fake name and birthday and the application still went through. so already knew it was a lie

This is a scam. This number returns to two different entities. The first returns to Robert Sangraw in Green Bay, WI. The second returns to Capital One located at 55 Lonsdale St in Boston, MA (hint - it’s just a regular residence, not a Capital One office). Do not give them anything and do not call back!!

It turns out that this was in fact CapitalOne's fraud department checking with me about an application for a credit card that I did not submit. I called the CapitalOne phone number from their website. Was passed to the application department. They confirmed the 855-522-7663 was CapitalOne. They cancelled the application that I did not submit. Be Safe on these things. Call the published number of the company and inquire. I am glad that I did!

This is an actual call from Capital One fraud prevention. I have been a victim of identity theft recently and they were verifying that I did (or did not) make a credit card application. I had seen the inquiry pop up on a report, so I had a heads up already. I returned the call, the number is legit.

I got a call from this number I questioned them because they wanted to verify me for a credit card i applied for (which i did apply) but questioned them as I did not know if they were legit. they were very gracious and rep gave me her Capital One Employee # and asked me to call Capital one number on my card and verify that this number and this employee were legit, I hanged up with her, and called capital one with number on back of my CC and the fraud dept. verified that the number was legit C1 Fraud Dept number so i called back to this number 1-855-522-7673 and they verfied me and I received the welcome package for my new Capital One Credit Card, so if you did not apply and got a call you might want to verify your info with them on this number and also let them know it was NOT you applying for their card so they can STOP the fraud with your name. this is 100% LEGIT number for Capital One Fraud Department. Hope this helps I know some say its not but that is NOT true I just verified and got my email for our new card (also i never told them what kind of card i applied for and they knew) so 100% Legit. hope this helps someone!
