First call sounded like an old fashioned collect call. Recording saying someone was trying to call me via this system. I hung up. Day later robocall advised me to set up an account with a credit card number. Doing this would allow some random person to use my card to charge calls! I blocked the number. Frankly I was surprised the number was a legitimate business at all. Apparently inmates use this cold calling to get people to supply credit cards that they later use for their own calling.

I had received 3 calls from the Hillsborough County Jail which has a different phone # on Sunday Morning. The 4th call from this number which is a service called Global Tel Link. A service used by corrections facilities requesting your credit card info to place funds in a prepaid inmate account so an inmate can make phone calls. It’s legal purpose is to allow Families and loved ones an easier way to communicate with an incarcerated individual without collect calls. Unfortunately, inmates have figured out how to “work” the system. If you supply your credit card info, the inmates will use this account to make outgoing calls on your dime. This is what is known as the “Jailhouse Jingle” Scam. If you don’t have or know of any person incarcerated in a prison somewhere, it would be in your best interest not to supply your credit info.

Thanks for the info. I got same call yesterday from this company. I thought who do I know who might be in jail? Well I'm the wrong person to call anyways. I figured you got yourself into this, you can get yourself out the same. So crazy all the scams that are out there....

an inmate tried to call me I didn't have funds on my phone. I used another company to put funds on my phone. a few minutes later I received a call from this company wanted me to put money in the account from the original call
