Hey, to share what I have learned, if the number does not begin with a "+1" it is from an international source. They mask their real number to make it appear as capital one. It was not capital one. I called them directly after receiving a call from 800-955-7070. Capital one said the never call for fraud charges. They know how to contact you directly without a phone call, like a text message first, then a follow-up. Be careful because this was the most real call I've received. Thankfully, I decided to hang up and call them to see if it's real. Sure wasn't.

I found the same thing as Good Mary. They had personal information claiming a possible fraudulent charge and wanted me verify the charge and confirm personal information. They even had my mother's maiden name. I told them (said they were Capitol One) I didn't make that charge. I wouldn't verify my information because that shouldn't needed. I too called Capitol One immediately. It wasn't them. Be careful!

I had just logged into the Cap One phone app & received a call from this number, which displayed as Cap One. The person claimed that I had been approved for a rate reduction program through Experian. He started asking a bunch of questions about how much debt I had then transferred me to his manager. I started asking a lot questions back and the whole thing sounded more like a scam & the "manager" eventually he hung up on me.

Caller ID said Capital One, It appears that they spoof the number (Telemarketer) reported by


Caller ID said Capital One, they spoof the number to offer rate reduction for cards. This is a SCAM and does not make sense. They initially asked for the expirations date of my card and my credit score. I made numbers up and gave it to them before i was transferred to a supervisor. THIS IS A SCAM

Called called, said they were from "Mastercard/Visa Services" calling to reduce my debt. The call was based from experian, he said -- asked if I have ever heard of Experian and I hung up. Mastercard and Visa are two separate companies. You can't be from Mastercard AND Visa services ... and claim Experian played a role in it, totally separate companies.

You can be from Visa and Mastercard services if your Company works with both. IE Capital One, Citi Bank, Credit One. They handle all the calls for all the cards that their company handles. Their is not a separate # for Capital One Visa and Capital One Mastercard it is all one #. Not saying this isn't a scam but their is the possibility of one company calling stating Visa/Mastercard services.

Foreign guy in a call center, said he was with Mastercard/Visa financial services, asked how much I owe in credit card debt, played with it a bit said I had no idea, asked again for a rough guess, then told him I would just call my credit card company directly, he then said "well we are your credit card company" I asked what card specifically he was calling for, said MasterCard/Visa and I said I didn't have a Mastercard, he said "uh huh" and hung up on me

Mastercard and Visa are two different companies. There is no way someone is legitimately calling from Mastercard/Visa. Besides, banks service those credit cards -- Mastercard or Visa is NEVER going to directly call you.

They just called me also, saying they were calling on behalf of Experian. They gave me the same lines and asked for the same info, but said they represented not only Visa and MasterCard, but also Discover and American Express... AND that they are the ones who provide the credit cards for all of those banks, and that the different CC would then jack up the interest rates before giving them to me, and they could provide me with the original low rates of 0-3%... Too crazy!!! I told them if they were from Experian they could already see all of my credit card information.
