Called stating that they were BG check company looking to verify employment for someone. I stated i couldn’t help with that, but asked if I could leave a message for person who could. They wanted to know when they could call back and I told them I was unsure. They asked for my job title and then hung up.

"Verifying" employment (Scam call) reported by


'Hireright Inc' showed up on caller ID. Voicemail was left (sounded like it was from a call center). They wanted to talk to the manager or HR department to verify employment of someone whose name was spelled hastily. Asked me to leave a bunch of information about myself if I called back and happened to reach their voicemail. Since I don't employ anyone, I'm not sure I can be of any help.

I see a handful of positive "hire right is legit u wont get a job if u dont answer" ratings here. BEWARE. Hire Right may be a real company, but that doesn't mean they won't try to phish you. Several companies I've worked with will not engage with Hire Right at all because of their "questionable" practices. This caller had a very thick accent, and he spoke so quietly and quickly that I couldn't make out most of what he said. He wanted an employee's info AND my own job title, email address, home address, and personal phone number. He also couldn't decide if he was calling for employment verification or BG screening.

They called to complete a background check and verify dates of employment for a former employee. They called twice now after business hours (7pm EST). We have not called them back. They need to call us during normal business hours...which is included in the message on our voicemail that they've listened to twice now...

I placed on hold and they hung up and called back. Placed on hold again when I got them on phone I was told this call will be recorded . I advised this is a Doctors office and hung up. They have not called back.

Call was from Hire Right - the call was asking me to confirm employment for someone that previously worked at my company, but I can't be sure as the call was cutting in and out and the noise sounded really garbled. I didn't answer it anyway nor did I call them back as I couldn't be sure who they were trying to verify.

Hireright calls us doing background verifications on former employees. That is OK. Except, their phone practices are horrible. They do not leave voice mail.s Instead they keep calling and redialing until we pick up. This is especially frustrating when i am conducting a meeting in my office. I have told them numerous times that we will only respond to them via email or fax but they still call us.

They are a service companies use to verify employment for other companies wanting to hire that particular individual. It's perfectly legit and a normal practice when going through a job hiring process that they check your references and verify employment, so answer their call.
