This woman ask for my first and last name , went on explaining about some identity theft fraud protection package, free for a month then $12.99 plus taxes after that, she asked for my email address , but I said I am not interested , and she said it’s free for a month I said I don’t want it , and hanged up! She said her name was Melissa Brown I don’t trust her .

Called this morning for the first time. I answered, she asked for me by name. Introduced herself I think she said Melissa and said she was from BMO Onguard and wanted to ask me a few questions, told me it was being recorded for quality assistance. Then she went on for about a minute explaining what it involved...free trial, etc, send me a package but just needed my email address. As she was talking I was googling and found a tweet to BMO asking about this number, and BMO said to block it. When she was done chatting and asked for my email I said sorry just searched this number and it's coming up as a scam. She started to say something else but I hung up.

I got a charge for the amount of 14.68 through bmo. Call sounded scammy and the followup emails to confirm my identity looked scammy too. I didn't sign up after being pushed to a verbal agreement, which on my recording, I turned down several times. Got charged after a month trial period I never used. I may take more action than canceling, but was initially surprised by the charge from Credit Alert.

They called me today and asked for my first and last name which I stupidly gave but said no to the email address and told them I would research and call them back as they should already have all my personal information since I receive emails from BMO regularly. Very shady.

This number and a similar one 1 844-308-6046 were identified as scams pising as BMO's Mastercard protection service On Guard back in October. The same search that brought up this site brought up a BMO Twitter conversation about the scam.

Offered Credit Card Fraud Protection (Financial services) reported by


Asked for First and last name and email. Said they'd send an email with all the information. Free for a month fraud protection service, ~18$ cad a month after. Talked to an actual person and wouldn't proceed unless given clear answers. Very convincing.
