Called my credit union and had them forward me to the fraud number. The reason they don't say the credit union, is in case of a wrong number they might accidentally reveal where you bank.

It was an automated voice message saying that the call was Fraud Detection for my credit union and I should call them back. I called my Credit Union immediately (this happened in the evening) and they verified that 'Yes" they use an agency that monitors and they thanked me for calling them. They had put a hold on my last purchase and locked my card until they could verify my last 3 purchases. I made several purchases within just a few hours that day. They were very appreciative for my calling them. It turned out to be verified and not a scam. I would not call any 'robo call' number back but do call your Credit Union or bank. They are looking out for you.

This is a legitimate call. It is an automated message from a 3rd party fraud detection company. They called on behalf of my banking insitution. I did not call them, but instead called my bank as a precaution and closed, blocked, and reopened a new card.

Do NOT ignore this number when they call. It's an anti-fraud department. Someone snagged my card information and made unauthorized purchases, and it was thanks to this call that I found out and acted quickly to reverse the charges.

The fraud number is absolutely legitimate. Please note, they are NOT the actual credit Union, they are the 3rd party that calls to verify a possible fraudulent usage of your debit/credit card. So folks, they're just trying to help you. I expected this call today because I made several transactions that triggered the call and they called right on time. They are good at verifying transactions. The call was on behalf of M. F. Credit Union in Jacksonvuille NC (Home of the U.S. Marines). Oohrah! Have a Merry Christmas. Out!

UPDATE FROM RISH: I called my credit union about the call I received from the "fraud protection agency." Apparently, the number is a bonafide third party automated line for fraud protection companies on behalf of different credit unions to verify Visa card activity that, for whatever reason, was flagged electronically. In my case, the card reader at the last store where I used my debit card made me reenter my card 3 times and that repetitive activity flagged my transaction electronically. SO...THE NUMBER IS LEGIT. Of course, when in doubt you should always call your financial institution to make certain it is not a scam. They will likely give you the direct number to the particular fraud protection agency that they use for their accounts.
