Or even in the cheap phone category. Apple is a marketing company that has proven and accomplished very effectively that you can market and brainwash the public without research. Companies like Hitachi, Panasonic (Matsushita), NEC, Sharp, toshiba spend BILLIONS of dollars on research and development and asking customers what they want and building electronics how with what the clients ask for. Apples approach was let's do the exact opposite Steve Jobs himself said people aren't that smart, they don't know what they want. Let's tell the uneducated masses what they want and tell them it's what they need and it worked.
