Learned a trick from my programmer boyfriend. I saw the caller ID as "REDWOOD CITY CA", and picked up the phone but didn't say anything. This prompts the bot into thinking that the number it called is just another bot, or no one's there since there's no voice. It sounded like static before it hung up after 24 seconds.

I do that all the time (and I did it with this caller); when I see a city and state on CID. 99% of them are telemarketers (Google AdWords, Alexa, merchant services, on and on and on. When they get dead air the phone eventually disconnects. Then I block them with my software and set it so they hear a "disconnected" recording.

This number has called us at least 50 times in a 5-day period. It's obvious that the robocaller is broken, so the number has been permanently blocked on all lines.

If this were actually a call from Google Maps, why wouldn't they identify themselves as Google Maps? I recently investigated calls from "Google" telling me my company's info has been omitted from Google. Google reports that they do not make phone calls of this nature. Nobody in Redwood CA cares about my software engineering business in Newport RI.

I just received a call from this number today and he was verifying if we were open today-not sure if it was because it's Veteran's day-he did not specify. Also, he Didn't ask for updated hours. His opening line was "due to Covid we are verifying if your business is open today"

Spammers quite often spoof numbers, so the fact that it appears to be a legit Google number is meaningless.

Actually, no, it's not a robot. I interrupted the person and they said "sorry, what?" That's not a robot.

Google's new AI "assistant" is VERY intuitive and yes it actually can and does respond to questions and/or comments with pre-programmed responses, known in the "industry" as what's referred to as NLP short for "Neuro-Linguistic Programming". The Bot programs are loaded with literally hundreds of responses, with most of them being a fitting response for any number of questions or comments, such as "sorry, what?". I too would have thought this to be a "robocall" if had been a little less sophisticated. Sophistication of this level can ONLY be coming from the genius of Google.

Nope, they have very "live" sounding robots, it's easy to believe they are really a person. But when you say something other than basic responses (yes, no, etc.) it will respond with, "I'm sorry, what?" and "I didn't quite get that." It's easy to know if you ask them to give you, for example, the current date. They can't do it; they'll respond with "I'm sorry, what?" :)

Claimed to be Google Analytics and stated the call is being recorded. Asked for our hours on New Year's Day Next Wednesday. Replied, We are closed on New Year's Day. It then asked, You are saying you are closed on New Year's Day Net Wednesday, is that correct? We said, We are closed on New Year's Day (rather than "Yes" or "No.")
