I don't know how many times a year you need to update the hours. And I am staff so I am not always here but pretty sure the one that answer the most of this calls, usually I just answer what he asks which is the business hours but today I asked if those calls where like every month o so, didn't acknowledge what I said and ask for the hours again, didn't sound like a machine to me, not this time not the times before though. So I said if he couldn't answer and he said sorry and hang up????

Man called saying he was from Google Maps and wanted to know if the business was open on New Years Day. I responded with "We don't open on New Years" and he then asked, "So you're closed on New Years Day?" Very quickly, it sounded unnatural. It was then I realized this is a scam to trick you into saying "Yes" or "No". I stayed quiet for a second when the voice then said "Got it, thanks" and hung up, again, they responded unnaturally fast. This is not a real person but some sort of recording.

I knowingly decided to play along to see what this scam was. I know this is not the Google Assistant number. At first, there was a recording. The call then shifted to a live operator who told me that my business was not properly listed. For a fee, they will be able to update my listing and ensure that my business' information was properly reflected in Google's services. They eventually hung up when I explained what my business does. Either they figured out it was a farce, or there are some types of activities that are off-limits even for scammers!

Caller stated he was from Google Maps and wanted to verify if we (*** Courthouse) would be open Christmas Day. When I stated "no" he seemed surprised. I would venture to say that all courthouses in the United States will not be open Christmas Day....

Learned a trick from my programmer boyfriend. I saw the caller ID as "REDWOOD CITY CA", and picked up the phone but didn't say anything. This prompts the bot into thinking that the number it called is just another bot, or no one's there since there's no voice. It sounded like static before it hung up after 24 seconds.

I do that all the time (and I did it with this caller); when I see a city and state on CID. 99% of them are telemarketers (Google AdWords, Alexa, merchant services, on and on and on. When they get dead air the phone eventually disconnects. Then I block them with my software and set it so they hear a "disconnected" recording.

If this were actually a call from Google Maps, why wouldn't they identify themselves as Google Maps? I recently investigated calls from "Google" telling me my company's info has been omitted from Google. Google reports that they do not make phone calls of this nature. Nobody in Redwood CA cares about my software engineering business in Newport RI.

I just received a call from this number today and he was verifying if we were open today-not sure if it was because it's Veteran's day-he did not specify. Also, he Didn't ask for updated hours. His opening line was "due to Covid we are verifying if your business is open today"
