Car warranty scam 'courtesy call' (Robocall) reported by


The phone number calls, informing the callee in a general manner that their car is out of warranty and that the call is a courtesy message before the 'account is closed'. However, rather than describing the car in detail, it asks if the callee wants to speak to a 'warranty specialist', but the dealer is not named anytime in the robotic speech. If the callee answers NO, the robot moves to a menu where the callee is prompted for a few options, including an option that allows the vehicle identification number to be (either) provided to or read from the DMV (can't remember). Another option provided is to hear another number, presumably for identification purposes, but the speech was unclear as to the actual intent of that option. The call is a scam because the source number is not a dealer's common number and the fact that no dealer will call merely to threaten the callee that their account would be closed if they did not act via an incoming telephone call. Finally, the call is a scam due to the generalized nature of the robotic speech.
