Caller ID: Financial Services-Robocall starts with offering lower rates on my credit card & this was my last chance to lower rates. No way to opt out-Rep answered-he spoke poor English; mumbling badly. He then said he was calling for my MasterCard. I asked which one, and he said "what?" I said that I know what companies I have cards with, which one he is calling about? He didn't know and said he was just calling to provide a better rate. I asked him where his company was located and he hung up on me.

total scam (Scam call) reported by

Called my cell phone, which I do not give out. Would not tell me who he represented, just mentioned the major card names of which I only have 1. Then tried to get me to tell them my specific credit card numbers for lower rates on what I owe. I told them if they represented my cards, they'd know I have a 0 balance. The sales rep called me a "f-ing b_ch" and hung up on me. So glad I wasted his time with all my questions.

Put me on hold for 8 minutes and then told me they were with Visa MasterCard and were going to lower my interest rates on my cards. Would not answer my questions about what company the caller was representing and would only say they work with Chase, Bank of America, Capital One, etc. When I asked again what the name of the company the caller was representing, he hung up. Could not be removed from list or put on do not call.

If you waste a telemarketer’s time, it cost them money. (Unsolicited call) reported by

If everyone spent 2 minutes talking to every telemarketer that called them, telemarketing as an industry would go out of business in a few days. If nothing else, wasting their time will increase the odds of actually getting added to their do not call list. Here are some fun ideas... 1 – Pretend the connection is bad and you can’t hear them. You can even say things like “I think…. connect…for to….wanted a big…always pay…charge my battery…Can you hear me?” pretending the line is a bad line. Since they’re calling from overseas anyways, this is fairly common. If you can play this game for 3 minutes, you’redoing pretty good. 2 – Talk over them like there’s a delay in the line. As soon as they start to speak, talk over them and tell them there’s a really bad echo on the line. See how long you can keep going that before they hang up on you. 3 – Pretend you’re someone else, like characters from your favorite TV show. Tell them about your day and pretend you’re in the last episode you watched. Most of the people in overseas call centers will have never seen the show, so they’ll have no idea. 4 – Pretend you know the person calling. Act like you were expecting the call and that you think the other person is your friend playing a practical joke on you. “Come on Joe, I know it’s you. Stop with the crazy accent.” 5 – Pretend you’re a telemarketer too. Tell them that this call may be recorded for training purposes. Try to sell them the latest in headset equipment for call centers. 6 – Pretend there are 3 or 4 different people in the house and after they talk for a few minutes, tell them they need to talk to your dad, or your sister or your psychiatrist, or your lawyer. See how many times you can pass the phone to the “next person”. 7 – Pretend you’re at the office and tell them that a customer just walked in, but you are interested in what they just said. Then put the phone down for 2 minutes. Do your part to stop telemarketing! Please – do us all a favor and keep these

Scam call reported by

After hearing the offer to "lower my credit card rate," I had the following dialogue with the caller: Me: Why do you do this? Caller: Do what? Me: Why do you prey on innocent people who work hard for their money? Caller: What are you talking about? You have lost your mind. Me: You call people at random with the promise of saving them money, but in actuality you are nothing more than a common thief attempting to steal their identity. Caller: You have lost your mind! You have lost your mind! Me: Your reaction only solidifies why you are NOT working for a legitimate company. No company representative would ever speak to a client in this manner. Caller: You have lost your mind! I suggest you hang up the phone before I rip you up! (caller disconnected the phone call)

Got an automated voice saying they couldn't reach me, etc. I pressed 1 and they answered right away. Said they represented all the Visa and Master Cards and represent the big banks and I had been selected to lower my interest rate on my card. They couldn't say which card and I had cards with at least two of the banks. Didn't give them any info. Not sure if they were legit or not.

They are definitely not. They are preying on unsuspecting or unknowing individuals who will give them their information.

Answered a phone call from this number today at a place of business. When prompted, I pressed 1 to speak with someone. Upon answering, the person says "thank you for calling so and so, my name is so and so, how are you today?" My response was "I'm good. Can you do.me a favor and remove our number from your call list, as we are a place of business and do not appreciate these automated calls during our rush hour." The man's response to me was HIGHLY uncalled for. "F**k you motherf**ker". I was extremely applied and hung up - only to call back and only get the option to remove the number from the call list. Disgusted.

Same here. I recorded the phone call, and recorded the guy cussing at me to. I want to pursue legal action, but I'm not sure how.

JB

Contact the Bar Association in your area. Ask them which lawyers are taking cases to go after telemarketers who are not honoring the Do Not Call Registry.
