They called me and left a message saying something like "an iPhone XR is being purchased on your Amazon account for $749, please contact an Amazon agent now." This is obviously a scam since if it was the real Amazon they wouldn't be calling you. Please don't fall for scams like these. They probably want your Amazon account so they can actually buy an iPhone with it.

This is the second time I have received a call from "Amazon" telling me my account had been compromised and was being blocked. Said an i-Phone had been charged to my account fraudently. This first time, I took the bait and talked to a "real person". Had such a thick accent, I could hardly understand him. He was rude and all but threatened me. I hung up on him. This time, I just hung up when the recording started. It was the identical motive. An i-Phone had been charged to my account. I contacted Amazon, and was told that is not how they conduct business.

Thanks for your report. I just got the exact same call saying someone was trying to charge an iphone for $700+ to my Amazon account and press 1, etc. I pressed 1 and it went dead. Called the number back - 1-888-280-4331 - and it seemed to be a real Amazon customer rep. I reported this fraud call to her.

Sam. This happened today called my real customer service to confirm. I closed my amazon card long ago so that was my first tip off. Or better yet yet call your cc company.

"$700" cell phone (Scam call) reported by


It was a robocall saying that I bought a "$700" cell phone that they wanted to verify by pressing 1. I ordered such no thing, so I checked my orders and I didn't see anything to the tune of $700 something. So it is a scam, which I promptly hung up. The caller ID came up as Amazon, 888-280-4331; but is probably spoofed.

they tried to get me to consent to them sending a text to my phone. i called them back to see who they are..robo said there was a transaction on some card for 349 dollars and they supposedly put a hold on it..definitely scammers. amazon never calls me for anything they only email.

I didn't answer this call directly, but I did call 888 280-4331 back. This appears to be a case of caller ID spoofing. The ID name for the originator was V62215565302771, while the return number was listed as 888 280-4331 (a real number for Amazon Customer Service). The robot message said something about Amazon (I didn't hear all of it), and then, "if you want to speak to a customer representative, press 1." I've seen the V622... caller name before, and always thought it was telemarketing, but this time, when I heard "Amazon," I thought maybe it was about a package that hadn't arrived. So I called 888 280-4331 back, which answered "this is Amazon." When I got connected to customer service at that number, they had no record of a call to me. She asked for my name, e-address, and mailing address, which I gave her. I was about to say good-bye, then I remembered I had a few questions about several Amazon orders. Each time I gave her the last 4 digits of the order she knew exactly what it was, when it had been ordered, etc. She helped me resolve each issue. She didn't ask for any other information. But after I hung up, I got worried about who I'd really been talking to. So I requested Amazon chat help and got into a very frustrating exchange with a representative who kept sending me canned messages about getting SPAM to email. When she finally read my messages and saw the phone number in question, she said, "Oh, that's a verified Amazon customer service number. No worries." So, I don't know what the story is. It seems like my return call was to a legit number. But the ID name for the caller, V62215565302771, is a separate entity. Their robot message ended with "to speaker to a customer respresentative, press 1"--so I'm guessing if you "Press 1", you get connected to their scammer. Meanwhile the Caller ID display shows the real Amazon customer service number as the originating number. Wiki has many more gory details about Caller ID spoofing.

Received call from 888 280-4331 it was a robot saying they were Amazon and that a charge for iPhone in amount $600 being charged to Amazon account and if you didn't place order stay on line and press 1 to talk to representative. I then hung up.... This is 2nd time I have received this exact call.

I had exactly the same call. I imm called Amazon and they said there were no pending orders. They said it was a scam spoof call. The phone number is used is the Amazon customer service number
