My 95 year old mother was called by 1@#9 (Scam call) reported by


My elderly mother was called by “Perry Thomas” and terrorized into thinking my son, her grandson, had been in an accident and needed $12,000 sent to bail him out. She has mild dementia and became very agitated, confused and near hysteria. She had a terrible night despite reassurance from all of us that everyone in the family was accounted for and safe. We are reporting this to the police and will file charges if possible. We would like to know how these scammers are finding elderly people to target in this way.

Received call from blocked number initially. It was someone pretending to be grandson. Pretending to cry, he said he was in jail and needed money to get out. Made up story about a wreck and how the person he hit was a pregnant woman and how he had had a few drinks, etc. He even said he didn’t sound like himself because his face was banged up in the wreck. Anyway, he wanted me to call his attorney at 1-877-845-4531 “Perry Thomas” to make arrangements to send $15,000 for bail. Ha! Knowing it was a scam, I called my local police. They said there were lots of calls like this today alone. I decided to call the number. I spoke to “Mr. Thomas” but when I told him my brother (an ex police officer) was in the next town over in FL and he will come to Mr. Thomas’ office with the money and go with him to bail out my grandson, Mr. Thomas suddenly informed me that I was calling a Home Depot and he was a floor manager. Don’t give these people ANY of your information.
