Got robocall allegedly from Blue Shield. Called back & nurse wanted my name/rank/serial number basically, i.e. name, DOB, etc. for ME to verify who I was. Are you f’ng kidding me? You people called ME. Said it was to discuss some things the plan offers and when I asked what exactly it was regarding, it was like some secret thing they couldn’t tell me unless they had all my info to make sure it was me—WTF? Said no way I was giving out info to a rando unknown person/number. She said call number on back of my insurance card. Don’t know why she couldn’t just tell me what they offer. Very weird. Yesterday I got a call from some bogus oil company who wanted to speak to my deceased father about something “private” that they couldn’t discuss with me. LOLOLOLOLOOOO! Didn’t bother telling him my dad has been gone for quite a while. Sure they wanted to sell him bogus oil stock. They got **** when I kept asking questions they refused to answer and hung up on me. Whatever—I already got two scam calls from “Amazon”—LOL!—today informing me someone spent $900 on my account for an iPhone—yeah, no. Amazon doesn’t call you. You call THEM if you have a problem. Anyway, so far I’m 0 for 3 on calls today..... Trust NO ONE.

Legitimate call (as far as I can tell) from Blue Shield Nurses. Said they are being asked to call out to members to see if they have any health-related questions at this time. I supposed they are trying to be proactive, but honestly, I would feel very uncomfortable sharing any of my health concerns with a random person that called me. Major Privacy Concerns with this. Just told her I have no concerns and thanked her for the call.

A purported nurse of Blue Shield called to ask me questions about my health, and wanted my date of birthday address!? I worked for the government and if I received a call out of the blue asked personal questions and wanting personal identification information, this call would have been reported to the security branch.

I just came home from cancer surgery and lengthy hospital stay, and there were two calls, one from 877-455-6777 and 916-841-0771. Both purporting to be Registered Nurses with Blue Shield. Caller asked for my social security and birth day. I said I would not offer that information over phone since this could be a fishing scam. caller said that they couldn't tell me what call was about then. I told called it's dangerous to give strangers personal information over phone. Stressful and hurtful, scary call. I've been identity thefted before and if this is a legit Blueshield call then retrain your staff to not be so secretive and alarming. But then again, other callers seem to say that this office is meant to deter subscribers who have had expensive medical procedures. Tacky and nauseating.

I hear you...scam calls are scary but these are nurses actually reaching out to be timely available to assist members when needed. You certainly can log in to www.blueshieldca.com and you will find this number (877) 455-6777 listed under Conditions and Care Programs - Shield Support. Check it out so you feel comfortable. The nurse I spoke with did not ask for my Social Security but did verify full name, date of birth and address as they follow security and privacy HIPPA guideline. Good luck to you.
