Claimed to be a Charter Spectrum representative - FRAUD (Scam call) reported by


This number called me with a woman claiming to be a Charter Spectrum representative offering to explore the option of lowering my service charges, stated that I was being recorded, then asked for my name. I told her if she was calling me, she should know my name. The woman offered up my first name and asked me to confirm. She the proceeded to ask me for my service provider and the amount I paid each month. I told her if she was truly calling from Charter, she would have my information. Her response was that she did not yet have my account information pulled up. I told her I was not going to give her any of my information over the phone or answer any more of her questions and she gave me a "customer service" number to call for more information on lowering my monthly payment or in case I had any questions about the call. I didn't actually get a chance to write that number down, but I immediately hung up and called the REAL Charter customer service number (on my account statement) and spoke with a representative who looked into my account and assured me that the REAL Charter has had no contact with me since May (which is contact that I am aware of and can verify). She made a note in my account of the situation and I gave her the information for the FAKE Charter number that called me. She said that she appreciated the call and that she was going to pass the information along to her manager regarding the fraudulent activity being conducted under their name. I wanted a record on my Charter account od this occurence in case I have to deal with any further identity theft issues that may be related to this FRAUDULENT call. This number is NOT CHARTER. The calls can be annoying, but do your research. Especially if the person contacting you does not even know your full name after they are calling YOUR NUMBER. DO NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION TO THEM!
