I missed the call but the number looked familiar so I redialed it. The canned message told me that the call is about an unpaid debt collection and that I should recite the reference number from the letter that I received. I have not received any letter and I have no unpaid debts, so instead I vocalized a Bronx cheer. The canned voice said that I would be connected to a human. I waited for a few seconds and then hung up. I checked the phone number on the internet and saw that it is the same as the NYS Thruway collection number. However, I have EZ-Pass with automatic amount refills, so I know that I owe nothing and that this is a scam call.

The service rep told me she called about a business matter. I asked what matter and what company she was calling from the words were muffled so I couldn't hear. She asked me to verify my address and I stated not before I got a clear understanding about the call she hung up shortly after stating that I refused verification. Strange!
