It's not a scam. It's Consumers Energy calling to remind of a past due amount. I'm glad they called, too, because I thought I'd paid by check. I'd left the envelope in the checkbook -- forgot to mail it and never realized it was still here because I usually pay everything online.

When calling back you are asked to enter your Consumer's account number. Once you do so you are usually informed that your account does not exist and are given a second number to call. The second number is non-existent and the scammer/phisher now has your account number.
