Unfortunately, I can't say if it was the real company or a scam call. Knowing scammers can spoof the real number of a company I tend to not answer when they call. I usually suspect it is a scam call because we pay the bill regularly. If you answer the call, do not give any info. If you are not sure call them yourself. Never give info to a company that reached out to you.

I've received calls from this number before and then called compa (Scam call) reported by


I've gotten phone calls from this number multiple times. They always say that my bill is past due and that I'm going to have my power shut off. I caught them saying American Electric Power. My company AEP is AEP and it does not stand for American Electric Power it stands for another name, therefore I know it is a scam. This scammer that is calling is trying to get my Social Security number when I do answer, so I have quit answering. Every time the number calls, I call my power company to confirm that my bill is in good standing.

"This is an important message from Indiana Michigan Power we are calling regarding a work order our field personnel have for your address if you are the responsible party for the electric service and have your account number or Social Security number available please contact Indiana Michigan Power at 1-866-715-3526 again the toll-free number is 1-866-715-3526 thank you" *Good thing I knew better and looked into it. This number is NOT listed on AEP's website.*

They said I had a work order for disconnection and wanted my account number and social security number. I called my real electric company and they confirmed these were scammers trying to steal money. All of the people saying that it’s legit are part of the scam.

.. it’s a scam.. (Scam voicemail “This is an important message from Appalachian power we are calling regarding a work order our field personnel have for your address if you are the responsible party for the electric service and have your account number or Social Security number available please contact Appalachian power at 1-866-715-35xx again the toll-free number is 1-866-715-35xx thank you…” (Actual legit message from AEP) “SCAM ALERT! – Thieves are calling our customers, threatening to shut off power unless an immediate payment is made. Appalachian Power never asks for pre-paid debit cards for payment. Please use our authorized payment methods, and call us at 800-956-42xx if you have questions or concerns.” Also they don’t ask you for your social security # !!! Just my neighbor.. they got took for over $500 .. and still had to pay legit bill ..

I got an automated call saying it was AEP(local electric company) with a message to contact a specific phone number regarding a work order on my account and saying I would need my SSN to verify my account. I did not call the number provided. Instead, I called AEP's customer service number. The representative looked up my account and told me there are no work orders on my account and it is in perfect standing. My account reflected no outgoing calls to me.
