These people called today. They are scammers. They had my name, then asked for verification from me, by ME giving them info regarding FASFA...when I asked them to get my file and I would verify the information if they gave it to me - they hung up 2 times. Please let all friends /neighbors/churches/ co-workers... these are scammers. They are not now or ever with the department of Education.

Received a call from 949-506-5130, did not answer, a voice message was left. The caller said her name was Linda Burke, stated that I had to call back to 866-310-0457 to discuss important changes to my student loan using a reference number 44740. This is a scam since I do not have student loans.

First call went to voicemail, they left me a reference number. When I returned the call they said I was eligible for student loan forgiveness (which I certainly am not since I just graduated) and asked for my personal information.

Claim to be the Department of Education, asked personal info. (Scam call) reported by


Received a call from (207) 424-2023 directing me to call by Friday evening to (866) 310-0457. When I called back I was asked for my name and birth date. I asked to tell me which department I'm talking to before I will provide any personal information. I was told they work with Department of education and call was disconnected. No one answered when I called back, I didn't receive any contact by mail or email for anything that I'm truly associated with. This is absolutely a scam call. Don't provide any of your personal information.

Call came from 1-208-314-6217 with a call back number of 866-310-0457. Left a message as similar to other here of discussing a new repayment option for a new repayment or possible 90% forgiveness of loan if I qualify. They asked for name, date of birth, email address, but then noted they were from the Department of Education and did not have access to National Student Loan database. They requested social security number to access loan, so I figured it was odd and kindly hung up.
