Sounds as if it's Wells Fargo fraud dept, but is Not. Has realistic voice recordings, finally reach a rep who asks you for the full card number, 3-digit code, asks you to spell your name... Why would they need that, right? I said I'm uncomfortable giving that, why would he need it? So he quickly said he understands, sorry about that, and we should call the # on back of card. When I called WFB, they said this call was not from them. Our card had not even been used, so there was no reason for that "Fraud" call to be checking about transactions on our account.

Initially didn't trust the number and the Voice Mail, so I called the number on the back of my Wells Fargo card and had them call the number to confirm that it was valid. This was a legitimate call from the Fraud Dept. of Wells Fargo. We verified that an attempted charge was fraudulent, they cancelled my card and are sending me a new one.

This is Wells Fargo’s fraud department. If you call the number, you will be asked to prove who you are with a billing zip code or something similar (obviously, don’t give out sensitive or compromising info like a full ss#, etc., but they shouldn’t ask for such info). After they verify who you are, you will be provided with your last transactions and asked to indicate whether or not they were approved by you. After you have indicated all is correct, they will take the hold off of your card if there is one. I suspect people are assuming this is a scam because it appears that WF outsources this task and this might not be the exact same number as is on the back of one’s credit card. This is a fully automated phone call, btw, and if you don’t want your card frozen or used fraudulently, it would be wise to at least look into it via this number or any other you would feel comfortable doing so with. It's legit. I didn't trust it when it asked for my ZIP Code (I figured more questions were coming), so I hung up and called Wells Fargo myself. Wells Fargo said they did make the call because there was a duplicate charge. I had, in fact, made duplicate purchases from the company in question, so it's all good. Glad they are keeping track!
