A man and a woman(in uniform) came up to my apartment and told me that they had to get all of the tenants on “clean energy”. So I thought it was something mandatory I had to do because they made it seem that way. They asked to see my electric bill, and I showed them, and the man started entering my info into his tablet, the whole time they were doing this, they were acting kinda shady and vague about the whole thing. This was my first time living in an apartment so I really didn’t know any better. Then he asked me to sign my name in his tablet. so I did. Then he told me a rep. from his company would call me to verify my info and I just had to say “yes” to everything the rep asked. so I got the call shortly after the couple left and the rep on the phone sounded super weird and was asking a lot of questions quickly and then she said “do you verify that you are switching from Duke Energy to Aspire Energy” and then it finally clicked in my head. They were a smaller private energy company and they wanted me to switch providers, it wasn’t mandatory and I had been mislead to believe that it was. I hung up and they called back several times but I didn’t answer. I don’t think it’s a scam, it’s just an energy company with very shady and despicable marketing techniques.

NRG is a safe company that Wal-Mart allows to set up a table for sales. The salesmen save you money on your energy costs (Electric and Gas, etc.). They even give you a $10 WalMart gift card to use right there at the store. It's safe. They saved me a ton. I was paying $0.48 a therm for Gas, they reduced me to $0.31 a therm.
