Typical Scam call (Scam call) reported by MT
recieved a voicemail from a really awful automated voice. From Sterns and Simon which upon inspection is not a legit Law Firm. They call from a Robo Dialer so they spoof numbers with a local area code to make them seem more legit (illegal in most states.) So red flag# 1 a "law firm" using a robo dialer. They say that them leaving a voicemail is official notification in accordance with state and federal laws. That is absolutely false do not fall for that so 2nd red flag. From looking into this, looks like the get old reports of loans you may have had in the past, most likely from call list criminals like this get from the "dark web" again don't fall for it. Record and report any calls like this to the FTC. This is a crime and those harrassing people and using fraudulent means to extort money deserve to be brought to justice. Do not give these people any money whatever they say even if the information matches with a debt you owe ask for a formal letter, do not provide them with any personal details or your home address if they are legit they should already have that info. That goes with any dabt collection call you recieve.. theres a lot of people out there phishing for what you've spent your life building so be diligent and never provide information over the phone or online always ask for a paper copy and call the original creditor for confirmation.

"Stearns and Scammin" (Scam call) reported by 173.70.122.xxx
Same automated message from these "Stearns and Simon" people. If you google Stearns and Simon or Sterns and Simon, nothing comes up. That was red flag number one. Every. Single. Law Firm.... should show up in a google search. Red flag number 2 was the fact that the voicemails I received stated that I was officially notified. The only way to have any type of official notification that would amount to anything would be to get served physically. Third red flag - no documents or paperwork. The only true way to let someone know that there is a claim against them. Fourth red flag - I don't have any bad debt. So I would love to know where this would come from. Final red flag (That I feel like typing out) is the fact that the numbers that they use to call us are generated to look like a local number and tailored to come from our area in order to prompt us to answer the phone. However, when you call that number back, nobody answers. Their main number is total different and it is NOT a local number. They have less of a chance of people answering a number that isn't local and they are fully aware of that. This is a scam. There are plenty of people out there who will fall for something like this, especially if they have any bad debt in their name. I hope this "business" goes down.

"Pending Claim" Scam (Scam call) reported by Missy
I've got two calls from two numbers in Leonard, TX from residential phone numbers. The last number came from 903-201-8499. Recording stating there is a claim against me. Doesn't give the name of the person they are trying to reach or the name of their business or company. Just a recorded voice stating their is a pending claim and I should talk to their representative immediately or have my attorney call them. This 855x number I am reporting is the number I am suppose to call back so they can try to scam.

Fake debt collection (Scam call) reported by 66.162.121.xxx
Used my maiden name, knew the last 4 of my social, and my last known address. Threatened to take legal action against me and repossess my car (knew license plate and make/model). Sounded pretty legit except I have no debts in my maiden name anymore. Also this call happened in September 2018 (just found it again going through old messages), and nothing bad has happened since. Scary though how much info he had on me!

This just happened to me yesterday, and I foolishly gave them my card info! It didn't hit me until they asked me for a card number, not account number like collectors would typically do. Started doing my research and I can't believe how much info they had on me!! Have since cancelled the card number I gave them and blocked the number. They sent me an email as well with no legitimate info.

Fake FAX scam (Scam call) reported by Mr. B.
Now see kids, this is where you land if you fall in with the wrong crowd and are too busy huffing paint thinner to finish high school. By the time you age out of the juvenile welfare system, the only thing lower than your IQ is your now-incomplete GPA.and no honest, above-board employer will have you. So, you turn to felons, drug addicts and other misfits who teach you how to parrot scripted lies to extort funds for so-called debts which no one actually owes. Most of their lame old shtick couldn’t scare milk money out of a first-grader, so only a tiny fraction of your “Portfolio” doesn’t laugh you off like the sad little joke you have become – and those are just the few who bother to pick up at all. Meanwhile, the lowlife criminals who hired you aren’t paying the big commissions they promised – not when their own veins have such good appetites, so you're up to your elbows in hock yourself and come to believe that everyone you shake down by phone must be a pathetic dead-beat loser just like you. Yet, you're really the only one breaking laws as well as your mother's heart. (By the way, she really wants her basement back!) Here’s a good way to deal with these Hitler Youth punks and their despicable tactics: First, never mind the number on your caller ID, it’s nearly always a spoof and strictly one-way. But the call-back numbers they leave have to be real, otherwise they could never scam a dime out of anyone, so that is the one to use. If you have two, so much the better. Also, visit their website (if they have one, although many don’t) and if the information under “Contact Us” doesn’t readily suggest a debt collector, use that also. Write a realistic-sounding, too-good-to-pass-up ad for anything appealing to as wide a range of people as possible using their contact info. – then post it to Craigslist. The ruinous overload of calls, texts and E-mails will soon cause their networks to crash and will also render any posted numbers unusable for subsequent sill-work.
