First, I did notice quite a few spam reports on this number, therefore, I cannot rule-out its having been spoofed, etc. Based on other comments, it appears it is a *NON-SPAM number, but is governmental, so may be used by more than one governmental entity. I capitalized non-spam as I am a retired Paramedic who worked for Rockingham County EMS, the N.C. County in which Eden is situated. As a former Agency Training Coordinator & having been a part of the committee for community awareness in emergency situations, I can vouch that this number is used to alert citizens in the event of incoming severe weather, civil emergencies, etc. It is also normal for there to be up to 5 or 6 seconds of silence prior to an official pre-recorded message which is sent out via VoIP technology for thousands of subscribers. In addition, it is used to alert residents to road closures, water outages, planned service interruption for repairs as well as, in this case, a change in garbage pick-up schedule 2° to the Memorial Day holiday. I presume, given the number of negative reports, the number has possibly been spoofed or individuals thought it was a silent call since the message takes a few seconds to initiate. It is always the same number which calls regarding any of the above as evidenced in my call history - it is a legitimate Local Government Notification number. Anyone contacted by this number with malicious intent/spam, etc. should call the following number to inform City Hall of its misuse - this number is an by automation to direct the caller to the proper dept. & is listed on the City of Eden website: 336.623.2100 -Jerry Taylor
