They were trying to collect a debt. I check my credit report faithfully, and I do not have anything on my report for collections. They have my correct name, but when I ask them for more information, they want me to give them my SSN. I refuse to give them this. I asked them to mail me information about the debt they say I owe, because if I legitimately owe a debt, I want to pay it. They refused to mail me any information about the debt they say I owe unless I confirm my SSN. That seemed very suspicious.

Missed a payment-- my fault. But the calls are ridiculous. I'm 2 days late and received multiple calls today(so far 4 calls). They did leave a message, texted, and emailed also. Problem is I paid this morning online. I wonder how long that will take to register for them so they stop!

I inadvertently missed a payment on a new credit card. Just missed the bill in the mail. Note that the voicemail said: Please stay on the line. This is a recording We are still trying to connect your call. Please continue to hold. A representative will be with you shortly." It was definitely a legitimate call. We owed a minimum payment and were late.

This came up when I visited an advertiser on Facebook. They claim to be Windows and to call the number to disinfect your computer. It locks the screen and scrolls a "Windows malware detected" message.
