Scam Call Prending to be From iPage Security (Scam call) reported by


I received a call that was recorded on my voicemail: "Hi, this is Fran from the Security Department at iPage [one of my webpage hosting sites]. I'm sorry to let you know that your website has been compromised and will start infecting other users who visit it. Please call me at 855-434-7316 x2724." The call concluded with the same three-item phone-based survey that follows all calls made to iPage user support. I called iPage and they made it clear that they never call their customers directly, but rather contact them through email

Web hosting company calling to say my site has been breached and malware is now in the code. But then they tried to get me to upgrade to a malware protection package. I go online and see a bunch of other people saying they got the same kind of calls from them recently. That's curious.

Called to say that malware had been detected on my site. I asked why they were scanning it, if it's hosted elsewhere. Said they would keep calling unless I had it removed through "Support." The very first question out of his mouth after telling the support person the (fake) name of the site, was "What is your mother's maiden name?" I got a huge laugh, hung up and blocked the number.
