"TriStar Legal" Scam (Scam call) reported by


Scam call; they called on 7/3 and I called them back. **** said I owed a particular debt that was "written off" in 2014, and that I opened a card with "HSBC Barclay" in 2010; then in conversation, they said it was "HSBC *Capital One* " for $2300, that I needed to pay at least half of it or they'd take me to court. B.S. I stalled and said I couldn't write as fast as they talked so let me write it down... and said, "Now, how much did you say I owed?" and they said "$2,300" and I asked them to let me speak to my husband because I always talk everything over with him. And, I said we needed to check our files, and how long did I have before they needed a response, and they said "By noon tomorrow, or you'll forfeit the half amount and it will go to court." (Federal law says you have 30 days to look over the disputed amount and respond, and that the party has to send a letter about the debt within 5 days of contacting you.) So I asked again, "How much is half the amount you wanted me to pay by tomorrow noon?" to which they replied, "$600.00" (can they not add/divide? lol!) Yeah, right. The thing that makes me angriest about them is (a) there are people who fall for this and pay money out, and (b) they implicated my grown children as well, and now, today, they called my oldest daughter in another state and hassled her. That draws the line. I have filed a formal Federal Trade Commission report. Also, my husband called them while I was working and told them to remove our number and they wouldn't. They got nasty. Don't call these ****. If you do, and if you go through this mess like I have, then detail *everything* on paper and block them. They'll call again with different phone numbers because people buy bulk dialers and you won't get away from these nutcases.

As others have reported, this was a blocked number, but they left a voicemail saying they had very important fax documents for my husband. First of all, who uses faxes anymore (besides doctor offices?)? They said they've tried reaching us several times, which is a lie. This is one big scam! Don't answer and don't give them any information or money!

They called a direct line to my place of employment and were super vague about who or what it was for, but they said they made several attempts to reach me and get my documents. They didn't say my name or theirs, and it was a robocall. This seems similar to what other people have reported on here.

They called my son (robot call) stating as everyone else has said. Even though I knew they were bogus I called the number twice, first time stated they were TriStar legal. Second time said Statewide. I asked why were they different companies, her reply was different departments for different customers. Yeah right. Such a scam.

Automated message mentioning my husband's name and saying they've tried to reach him multiple times. The call was from a private number but they leave the call back number saying this is their final attempt to deliver something. They also gave this number 113363529 as a reference number at the beginning of the call.

Robo calling saying they had a fax to deliver to me. Called from private number but gave this 855 number to call back. They said they've tried contacting me multiple times which is a lie. Also said they'd try to contact me at place of employment. If this was for real they would know i am retired. Scammers..

This is a very dangerous call they are NOT able to arrest you or she you. They are looking for vulnerable people who won't question the want for money. Seniors are a high target population.
