I googled HP Printer offline and landed on this website.(link below) A chat window pops up and I thought it was strange so I ignored it at first but they were persistent so I responded and gave my number. When the caller asked for remote access to my computer I said no. HP has never requested that before and told him I typically am able to figure out the offline issue on my own and hung up and blocked the number. I then noticed the website was not secure. Please be careful. I was set up my HP printer and did not know how to connect with wifi. When to the website and three was a chat box with Nancy. I explain to her that I can not contact my printer to the wifi and if she can help. Nancy contacted me with the technician name Jhon Walter. he gave me a code to enter my computer so he can have access to my screen which I did. he started by looking at the network and said, your network is being used by people from a different country. I told him that does not make sense you can not use it if you are at the end of the backyard. He said he can provide me with network protection I just have to pay the money and I am cover. it was about an HP printer, not my network. I call my internet provider and ask if anyone been using my network and the said NO. I call them back and ask them to remove the framework that they left on my computer and I can not delete. they just being so rude because I did not sign with them.

same thing happened ot me today--i was setting up a Netgear wifi extender and ran into trouble. Googled it and brought up the Netgear page (or was it?) with a live chat box. Live chat said a tech would help me with my modem, and i gave them my number. A tech named John Walter ran teh exact same routine as Lina reports above, and Jessica below. Ran some Malware software on my computer immediately afterwards--I cant belive I let this happen, ack!

I googled how to connect my printer to my WiFi cause I was having issues. I clicked on a help website posing as HP and a chat box popped up with an “hp agent” asking my problem. She then told em a tech would call me and help me resolve my issue. A tech names Saul called me from this number. Thinking he was an actual HP Tech, I let him screen share my computer. He then told me I had malware from “intruders” And that’s why my printer won’t connect. Then he typed up this big paragraph about what they offer, for how much... to conquer this problem with connecting. I refused and when I hung up I realized it was a scam and I allowed him access to my computer. DO NOT GET DUPED LIKE I DID

i just wen thru this today, 2,11,2021 i allowed remoted access to my computer and so called hp tech for my printer.. he instaled new drivers for my printer and it still didnt work .. asked if i had virus software cause there was over 44,000 items on my computer ....wanted to sell me some virus software web root advanced.....he gave me his number 1844873-0053 ext 950.... im gonna try to call this number on friday 2-12 to see what happens.... but know, i cant even add a printer to my computer at all

"Nathan" on the line identified himself, whom he worked for and what he needed from me. He stated that he needed my PCPs name and address. I started to provide the information required but the harder time he had understanding what I was trying to say to him (ei. city or county health coverage)the more uneasy I got about the call. Thus, I hung up.
