This number appeared in a pop-up window during an application install. The window stated that my iPad's IP address was being duplicated which meant that I had been hacked by malware. It provided the number that I should call, stating that it was Apple support. When I called the number, the person did NOT request my Apple ID or any other identifiers to link to my Apple user verification and validation. That was a big red flag for me. He acted as if panicked by the information that I stated for the nature of my call. He said that someone was stealing my information and that I needed to act immediately! He further stated that "he" would fix it right away for me. I acted on my own by immediately disconnecting the device from any access to the network. Next, I asked him how he could verify that he was in fact an Apple Inc. representative, as the number which I was asked to call did not appear in the Nationwide search for Apple, MacIntosh, or iPad technical support. He couldn't verify that he was in fact an Apple technician. Yet he informed me that my iPad would "lock" if he didn't fix it for me right away and that I would be robbed of all my personal information! I informed him that I would visit my local Apple store for assistance, ending the call. When I tried to exit the pop up, another screen appeared. To the average iPad user, it would give the indication that the iPad had been locked. However, I double clicked my home button, then proceeded to close all windows and open applications. Next, I cleared my cache, and dumped all browser history and cookies via the settings controls. I then reopened a browser. Guess what! My iPad was NOT locked! The bozos had attempted to trick the user into believing that their iPad was locked by using a screen capture as a flash screen. Well, when you try those tricks on software test analysts, they usually don't work!! These scammers need to get real jobs-try earning an honest living! DO NOT TRUST THESE GUYS!!!!

In my case I got a pop up on my ipad telling me my device was infected and I needed to call this phone number to save my device. They told me all my devices on my home network were infected and I needed to allow them access to my computer screen using an app that they would provide via their website, "www.remotebyapple.me" This is not an official Apple website. The cost for this fix was that they would reinstate my Applecare warranty for $150 for three years. The bonus was that this warranty would be for ALL Apple products in my household and not just my ipad. This would be quite a deal; so good in fact that there is no way Apple would ever provide such a warranty as I have three Apple computers, six apple phones, one ipad and numerous ipods! Yet I would get Applecare on all these products for three years all for $150. The worst part about these crooks is that the original pop-up showed up on my ipad when I tried to go on a senior's assisted living website. They were obviously targeting a very vulnerable group of people, the elderly. Once in someone's computer they have access to anything on the hard drive such as financial and password information. They could conceivably steal everything in someone's bank account in this scam. I'm disgusted! Please get the word out on these crooks!
