Received phone call (to my wife's phone) wanting to talk to me about a "personal matter". I called the number back. Like other callers, the female caller kept her mouth close to the phone. When I asked her to repeat several times she hung up on me. I called back again, and a male voice answered. Claimed I owed $11,000 in back taxes to the state of Louisiana (I lived there for a year 10 years ago. Paid all my taxes). I advised the mail caller of such, and that I was going to investigate his company. If I found out it is a scam operation, I would report them to the appropriate law enforcement agencies. He replied he would give me the number to call the state of Louisiana to verify. I advised him I was perfectly capable of finding the number for myself. I then asked for proof that I owed anything, and he desperately tried to get me to call the number he would provide (probably goes to a coworker who would pretend to be from the state of Louisiana.) I then hung up on him.

It was a call from this number and it sounded like a human, and she introduced herself and asked for the last 4 of my social just to verify that im the person they are calling about. I denied to give my last 4 of my social unless I have more info about what it is that I am being accountable for. She denied the information by saying that unless she can verify, she will not let me know what it is about. After a brief back and forth repetitive dialogue, she said this is the last 4 of your social we have on our file, is this you? It was correct and she said that she was calling about collecting a debt from Lousiana Tax. I had a certain amount I need to pay in delinquent taxes apparently. The thing is that I pay my taxes every year and I am not sure what this is about. SO, I asked her to send a mail with all the details about this case. I have not received any mail yet since I just talked to her a couple of minutes ago, and I am not sure if this is a genuine call and I have misfiled my taxes somehow, or if this is a fake call. But beware guys, just to be safe.

Hard no. Called back... they are debt collectors. But trying to access me via an address I left over 7 years ago... so totally bogus.

THE REASON THEY ASK IF YOU LIVED AT AN OLD ADDRESS IS BECAUSE MORE THAN LIKELY YOU WILL SAY SOMETHING LIKE, "nO, THAT WAS MANY YEARS AGO. tHIS IDENTIFIES YOU AS THE PERSON THEY ARE CALLING. BE CAREFUL.

Caller stated she wanted to verify information, but wanted me to provide it so she could verify. I did not and asked what it was about, to which she said "it is a private matter, is this John Doe?" I told her I would not give her any information until she told me who she was and what she was calling about. This circle argument went on for three or four rounds until I hung up.
