I called 1833-200-31xx to get my name changed to my maiden name (so it would match my passport) on my boarding pass/reservation. I was put on a long hold. He came back to ask for my cell number in case the call gets disconnected - then the call did disconnect after another hold. He called back from 84457088xx to say that there was no response so he had to disconnect the call and then proceeded to tell me that my name could not be changed, but he could have it noted so I would not have to show my passport, but to do that there would be a penalty of $120 ... I ended up calling United again at 800-241-6522 and she advised they would never charge for a simple name change (update for the same person and not a change to a completely different person). Also, she advised they would never ask for phone numbers as their phone system already records it. After this second call, I got a confirmation with my name updated and new boarding passes.
