Professional Bureau of Collections of Maryland. This is the collection agency for student loans. They purport to be the federal government. THEY ARE NOT THE FEDS!!! My son passed away with a $1000 balance owed. I notified them with a death cert. and they have called me 44 times in 5 months. My wife has no idea how many times, and my sister that barely knew my son has been called.

I do have a student loan- and did receive their letter in the mail. But the letter stated they sold my loan back to the Student Loan company, so not sure why they keep calling me. I have tried several times to call them back, and no one will call me back. I have left several messages. They want me to scan them my driver's license. Not sure I want to do that.

It is a legitimate company because the us department of education transfers the loan to this debt collector.

No they are not, I have never had a student loan and my lawyer says they are not legitimate. But hey it's your choice

They call at least once per week. NEVER ask for me by name or use anyone else's name that they are looking for. I find this suspect, as most debt collectors would at least leave a name that they are looking for on the voice mail. However, I do not have any voice mail recording at all - just my phone number, therefore, I think that is why! Same woman calls. Leaves an extension number. All of the googling that I've performed on this number seems to be a consensus that they are student loan-related. I do not have student loans and never attended college. Do yourself a favor and just block this phone number. They will still call from various lines. However, at this point, I think that I've got them down to blocking all of them over the past six months finally, to where they now go straight to voice mail.

I have received a call every 2 weeks and finally called them back. It’s a legitimate effort to collect a student loan debt. They were looking for someone who must of had my number years ago. The young man was very polite and said he would remove my number from their database.
