they are trying to collect money from me that was from my own insurance agency they claim they paid to me in error. yet the amount was for the exact amount my provider was asking for.

This is supposed to be a law firm affirming that there is a law suit against you, that you could lose your house unless you pay a debt. There is a common factor in these fraudulent agencies, when you ask them where they are located, a physical address and a landline number, they avoid the question and treat you with legal terms to scare you. If a firm don’t tell you a valid address or headquarters, most likely is an scheme.

caller had a very thick accent and made requests about my "known account" with reference number and then starting mumbling - unable to understand said "reference number" - delete message and will not call back - the few things I have in collections are being worked and handled via mail

Well this is a legitmate company, debt collectors - Lamont, Hanley & Associates, Inc - check them at http://www.lhainc.com/ - but for me just a nuisance, no idea where they got my number...Their main contact numbers are Tel.: (800)-639-2204 and (603)-625-5547 (so this number could also just some call centre working for them)
