Service Upgrade (Scam call) reported by Marvin
A male voice with an Oriental accent called. He stated that he was calling on behalf of Verizon Wireless. His call was to let customers know of an upgrade to the local 4G Network which could cause temporary outages or dropped calls. Then he said that he needed the 6 digit code number that had been texted to me. He said he needed it in order to remove my number from their call list and prevent additional calls. After I hung up I called Verizon Customer Service to verify the information. I found out that it was a SCAM. In less than 2 minutes he had accessed my account and ordered a new 256 GB iPhone. While having the order canceled, 5 more iPhones were ordered. These were also canceled. However, the scammer contacted Verizon indicating that the orders were canceled in error. I again contacted Verizon. This time I spoke with the FRAUD Department as a shipping and tracking number was already created. Both the orders and shipping were canceled. This number is very close to a valid Verizon Service number (800-922-0204) which is often spoofed.
