Very similar as was described in other passages. I was called by a man who identified himself as Charles A. but had a heavy Indian accent. He told me that HP has been trying to send me updates but that my computer has been rejecting them. This was very suspicious to me because my computer is out of warranty and HP has never contacted me by phone before. I also have HP Support Assistant and nothing came up in that queue. Anyway, I googled the number and it was in fact an HP Number so I figured it may be legit Don't be fooled, these scammers can put whatever they want in the caller ID viewer. When he asked me to open the command prompt, I was again suspicious and first typed the prompt into Google where I came up with a report of scam calls like this one. I opened the event viewer anyway because it seemed like a harmless step but it did not produce the results he expected. I then told him I'd call him back and he gave me a whole other number to call him on besides the number that came up on the caller ID and his extension. I asked him if I could speak to anyone in his department and he told me that my issue is registered under his name. I then googled the number he gave me and came to this website. I've worked for a .com alongside fraud prevention and detection and internet security so I'm glad I recognized this as a scam call and avoided any damage. I've blocked the HP Service number that came up on my caller ID from my phone.

Same response as Salty Dog He said he was HP customer service rep and went over the basics with him and said that a tech would call me. The tech called me and said that my PC is infected. I was very skeptical and told them I had never had a call from HP and questioned the legitimacy. Needless to say I fell for it and am very embarrassed and should have went with my gut. He said that the HP server showed huge errors and alerted them and they needed to be cleaned up. He was good. He knew my desktop model. Had me look at computer log which showed over 3700 warnings. Actually wants to connect remotely to your pc. I went for it and he took control. Suggested I buy 4 certificates and he could clean it up for me but did not ask me to purchase an i-tune card. I Had an appointment and I had to go and said that he would call me back that evening. Told me not to turn off the computer. I hung up and turned off the computer. Then computer was locked up with a password. it is at best buy right now to retrieve my data.

Afer I received a call from this number, I went to HP website and found this alert message. They said they could help me fix my computer once and while they were working on my computer they even opened my webcam... Asked me a bunch of question irrelevant to computer and stuf like if I was married or something like that. They called twice asking me to open the execute option (Windows button+R) and ask me to look for event administrator (might be lost in translation since I'm on a french computer). Apparently I have huge amounts of error (Over 3000) but I don't know if I should trust them.

He was good. knew my laptop model. Had me look at computer log which showed many warnings. Actually wants to connect remotely to your pc. Suggested I buy anti virus software and I-tune cards and call him back (using this number) with the card code numbers. I assume he would get his money using the I-tune gift cards. Very smooth

Told me my computer was infected, therefore couldn t send important upgrades to protect my computer and he needed to get access to clean it...humm hummm sure...I told him i didn't trust him. He bullsitted and gave me a bunch of id numbers that he probably pulled out of his ... Anyways. I said i d look into it and he insisted on making up a time to call again when i ll be in front of my computer. I think he is not expecting the talk I ll be having with him cause trust me, I will not hold back!!!
