I used to work for AIL (American income Life). They generally only call for a few reasons: 1) Someone recommended you (friend or family member especially), 2) You work for a Union (union members get yellow card that you fill your info out on, and it's permission for them to call or stop by to talk to you about the benefits they provide), or 3) you wanted child safety kits and AIL provides them, and you have given permission to let them talk to you. They also call if you have a policy, to confirm the information you gave the agent. In my case, I changed my bank draft info for an old policy, and I got a call (that I slept through) to confirm the info was all correct. AIL is a legitimate company who only calls if you've given permission, though individual agents (all contractors) can be more or less respectful of your time and wishes. I hope this helps anyone! As far as I'm aware, this number is the verification department making sure the info they have is correct.

Still accurate, however, this number is only from the Home Office doing the review of applications. If this number is calling, it's because you have already applied for a policy and during their months of review, they have questions in order to finalize. These are time sensitive matters, so they will call once or twice a day. If they stop calling and you have yet to answer, expect your policy to be incomplete and coverage lost.
