During the winter, scammers will use a process known as "spoofing" or using a caller ID to make it appear they're calling you from a legitimate number. This number comes up as PPL but when answered it is usually a scammer trying to get your credit card information threatening to shut off your power. PPL does not make calls to shut off power, they will notify you by mail weeks ahead of time. If you are ever unsure, do not answer the call and call the PPL number and you'll be connected to a real PPL representative.

We are up to date with our payment and when I heard the threat about PPL cutting power in 15 minutes got very suspicious. I immediately hung up and called PPL at which time they said that this was a scam.

It's a legit call, NOT a scam, telemarketer, bill collector, non-profit, spam, etc...... It's PPL Electric Utilities (formerly known as PP&L and Pennsylvania Power and Light). Their customer notifications are done from this number, either by robo notification or an actual person calling to provide you with the information and it usually pertains to things such as outages in your area, status updates/ ETA for outage end, as well as if the customer requested notifications once their monthly charges reaches a specific amount, based on the amount they chose.

It is not! It is a total SCAM. I called PPL and they told me that they do not cut your power in 15 minutes. Don't fall for their threats.

Yes it is the PPL number, no you should never answer this number because it is commonly spoofed by criminals who are trying to act as PPL. Instead wait for a message to be left or call them back to confirm there is an issue.
