When people start a call by saying “hi is [your name] there” psychologically it gets you to drop your guard like oh this person knows me. I always say “ you have the wrong number”. First of all, some people are fishing to confirm your info and complete it for perhaps to steal your identity. Others are collectors and only need to confirm contact with you to restart the statute of limitations on collections. Word of advice to legitimate telemarketers, you should start by announcing yourself and stating your purpose. Otherwise you spook me and I’m gonna hang up. To all you trying to trick me....**** me
