Trying to collect a medical dept that has already been paid by th (Scam call) reported by


Due to new legislation from the current administration my past medical debt was covered. I talked to the hospital and they said it was paid. The dept was 5 years old. Now that its paid these people pop up and try to collect from me. First time I argued with them, second call I just said wrong number. If this number is contacting you, give them nothing, its a scam.

some Portfolio management company. keep calling and calling but won't leave a message, so blocking them. Says lower down the list that they're a debt collector. They buy lists of people whose credit debts have been charged off and they try to collect the balance. problem is, once a debt is written off by the credit card company, you don't owe anyone anything. So these people basically prey on your fear of collection agencies. They try to get you to pay, but technically, you don't owe anyone. That's why it's important to keep yourself updated as to what your credit report says. If your report shows a write off, or a charge off, it means the credit company wrote off the debt and you no longer owe them anything even though it affects your credit score negatively for about 7 years. But it's written off, so you don't owe anyone anything anymore, there's nothing you can do, but after it's written off, there's nothing they can do to you either. So these people pay the credit card companies to buy the lists of people who have had write offs. Then, whatever they get from you is pure profit. Now, they bought your info for pennies, so unless you get served by a debt collector in court - you don't owe them anything.
